Complications can occur during and after laparoscopic procedures. A review of studies found: 1. Early laparoscopic cases had higher complication rates (around 16%) due to the learning curve for the procedure. 2. Major complications occurred in around 9.5% of cases and minor complications in 1.9% of cases. 3. Common intraoperative complications included bleeding (1.4-4%) while postoperative complications included ileus (1.5%) and hernia formation (<0.5%). 4. Proper cleaning of surgical instruments and use of disposable materials can help reduce risks of infection from microorganisms that form biofilms and resist chemicals like glutaraldehyde.
